Below is an updated list of local rentals. This information is updated every Thursday. We will keep you posted on any other opportunities that may come available.

If you need help finding housing, please contact us. We’d be happy to check out places you may be interested in and send pictures if you’d like.

First off, congratulations to all of you who received job offers and accepted positions. There were many applications to review and a lot of quality candidates. We still have a little work to do before we wrap up hiring completely, but we’re getting close.

As you can tell from the “Welcome” page, we’re quickly watching the days tick by and fire season is just around the corner. So, on that note, we just wanted to get you a little information that will make the transition to work a little smoother:

You’ll all be receiving an email shortly that will contain the names and numbers of your crew-mates so you can nail down the housing aspect of things. We’ll keep posting current rentals too.

IMPORTANT!!!
Our fire clerk, Dani, wanted to pass along this information as well as you work through your e-forms and other administrative paperwork:

As you are filling out your eforms, you will be given your ConnectHR username and password. This is not the same as your eforms username and password. Please write this information down and bring it with you on your first day of work. You will need it to get paid!

Also, in order to pack test on day 1, please fax your HSQ (Health Screening Questionnaire) and Informed Consent forms to me at 208-756-1623. If you don’t have them, I’ve attached them below:

Hiring

We’re in the process of offering jobs this week and there’s a good chance it will continue into next week. So if you’ve applied please be available to answer your phone. Waiting on people to call back will really slow things down, and if you wait too long, we might just skip over you.

Also, for those of you who have applied and have taken jobs elsewhere, or are no longer interested, please either give us a call at 208-756-1625 or email us so we can remove you from our lists.

If you have applied and haven’t heard from us, just hang in there. But we’re not going to be able to call all candidates who did not receive job offers to inform them. There are just too many. We had well over 300 applications to process.

So the applications have been printed and are currently being evaluated and reference checked. We had over 300 total applicants, so its been a long slow process, but we’re getting through pretty quickly.

We’re not exactly sure when offers will be made, but we anticipate this happening in the next couple of weeks.

Hang in there. The end is near.

In other news. We want to welcome Matt Knott as a Senior Firefighter taking the place of Brian Barbaree. Matt comes from Region 1 where he performed as a Squad Boss for Helena Hotshots. He brings six years of experience and knowledge to this position.

The short of it:

We got the word to make the request for referral lists. So if you’re working on your application now, get it submitted NOW!!!

We’ll be forwarding the requests on 2/14 and from what we’ve heard, they’ve been filling requests in as soon as ONE HOUR!!!

Next steps:
After we request the list, you may receive an email that asks if you’re still interested in a position with us. You will have a short time to respond (maybe 2-3 days). If you do not respond, you may be removed from the list. So I suggest that for the next few days, you check your email regularly.

After that, the Forest will begin its hiring process and this may take a couple of weeks to complete.

We don’t have exact timeframes yet, but we are moving forward. Stay tuned.

Upgrades.

Just thought I’d put a few pics up of the some of the upgrades that our aircraft are going through. Construction Helicopters purchased the two mediums from VIH/Cougar last year and has been hard at work through the winter getting ready for the 2013 Fire Season.

New paint jobs and updated components.

Fully updated instrument panel with mounts for ipads.

Fast fin addition for increased tail rotor authority.

The first month of 2013 has officially ended and we just wanted to keep you informed on the goings-on here at Salmon Air Base.

We’ve received a lot of calls this week from folks who want to know if we’ve gotten their application. The answer is currently, we really don’t know until we get to see that list (more on that in a moment). But, as stated before; as long as you’re showing the time-in-grade experience and you’re qualified for the position you’re applying for, you’ve got your IQCS master record attached to your application, and you chose the correct duty station, there should be no reason you don’t show up on the referral list. Now whether or not you get the job will depend on the quality of your application, experience, and references.

As for when we’ll get that list. As of 9am Friday February 1, we have not received word whether or not the Temporary Hiring Process the forest submitted to the region has been approved or not. But, because the plan closely reflects other forests approved plans, there should be no reason it is not approved.

And here’s how it will most likely go, once it is approved. It looks a lot like “Fire Hire”:
1: Referral lists will once again be requested and generated.
2: All applications will be printed hard copy.
3: Contact will be made to determine continued interest of the applicants.
4: A panel of Subject Matter Experts will review applications, reference check, and level the apps.
5: Job offers will be made

This may occur the week of Feb 11th and take that entire week to finalize the process. Currently, we’re looking at approximately 15 positions to fill, depending on our returnees from last year.

That’s what we know for now. It may all change, of course, but we just want to keep you in the know.

Other news:
New Forest Supervisor on the way. The position is close to being filled. That’s what we know.

The spring training academy looks good: S290 (Intermediate Fire Behavior), I-200 (ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action), L280 (Followership to Leadership), S-200 (Initial Attack IC), S270 & 271 (Air Operations and Helicopter Crewmember)

Only two veteran rappel sessions this year: One in John Day, one here. We expect there to be a few more people at each because of the consolidation, but I’m sure they’ll go just as smoothly as last year.

We’re playing with the list(s) and configuration of the crew to try to accomplish some of the objectives that came out of last year, so expect some changes around here.
